Music Career of Popular Latin Pop singer - Paulina Rubio

Paulina Rubio is one of the famous and topmost Mexican singer in the genre of Pop-Rock, Dance-Pop, Latin Pop music that is wonderfully blended in Mexican traditional rhythms.

Paul Rubio who was born on June 17th, 1971 began her singing career at the age of seven. She joined the seven kid-member band group "Timbiriche" on 30th of April 1982. After spending a decade of successful singing career with the band till 1991, Paulina Rubio decided to hit the road to solo career in 1992.

Soon after leaving "Timbiriche", Paulina traveled to Spain and began working on her first solo album titled "La Chica Dorada" {The Golden Girl}, which was released in 1992 through EMI Latin record label. The album became a roaring success throughout Latin America and true to its title; Paulina came to be known as 'The Golden Girl' and to this day the title struck her. The debut solo album sold an over 1.2 million copies and received Diamond certification in 1997.

Paulina quickly followed it with two more albums "24 Kilates" {24 Karats} in 1993 which sold over 150 thousand copies in three weeks and a third album "El Tiempo Es Oro" {Time is gold} was released in 1995. In 1996, Paulina released her fourth album "Planeta Paulina" that featured a number from her 1995 telenovela starrer "Pobre Nina Rica" {Poor Rich Girl}. The album contained some English versions of her songs too. "Planeta Paulina" was the last album to be released through EMI.

Paulina then took a break from music and for a change took up acting. She first played the role of a villain named Paulina Montenegro in "Pasion y poder" {Passion and Power: 1988}. She later appeared in the most popular television series "Baila conmigo" {Dance with me: 1992}. Three years later, she appeared in “Besame en la boca" {Besame in the mouth: 1995} and "Pobre nina rica" {Poor rich girl: 1995}. Earlier at the age of twelve Paulina had a small role in "Dia del compadre, El" {The Day compadre: 1983}.

Returning back to music, Paulina Rubio released her fifth album self-titled "Paulina" in 2000. The album received three nominations at the second annual Latin Grammy Awards in the category of "Album Of The Year," "Song Of The Year," and "Best Female Pop Vocal Album." The album also hit the #1 spot on Billboard's "Top Latin Albums" chart and it remained on top for over 52 weeks. The album also became the highest selling Latin album of 2001 selling over 4 million copies worldwide. The success of this comeback album inspired the Universal Records and encouraged Paulina to make forays into the world of English music.

In 2002 Paulina Rubio entered the world of English music with "Border Girl" - her sixth album. The hit single 'Don't Say Goodbye' became a chart buster peaking at 11th position on "Billboard Hot 200". The album received Gold certification in US. She achieved international recognition with the album and performed at a number of international festivals. Paulina's seventh album "Pau-Latina" released in 2004 became one of her biggest albums. The first single 'Te Quise Tanto' peaked at the top position on Billboard's "Hot Latin Tracks" for five weeks. The album "Pau-Latina" received Grammy nomination in 2005 in the category of "Best Latin Pop Vocal Album."

"Pau-Latina's" success brought her the honor of hosting the MTV Latin America Awards. She thus became the first woman artist to host the show. Paulina was also honored and named People En Espanol's 2005 'Star of the Year'.

Paulina in 2006 released her eighth album "Ananda". The album reached #1 spot in the U.S. and in Latin American countries reaching #1 spot on Billboard's "Top Latin Albums. The album "Ananda" won 3 "Billboard" awards of which one is an "Album Of The Year" award. Paulina Rubio's ninth album "Pausion" is slated for release in October of 2008.

With 13 albums to her credit with the band "Timbiriche" and nine solo studio albums to her credit, Paulina Rubio has come a long way in the world of music. To date she has sold an over 5 millions albums worldwide. Her concerts have always been a sellout long before the openings especially in Latin American countries. Over the years Paulina Rubio has developed a successfully enigmatic rhythm in her music that instantly connects to all types of listeners whose musical tastes vary in genre and kind; and that includes the non-music lovers too.
